Fayette was incorporated in 1821 and has been known as “La Fayette”, “Fayette Court House” and “Fayetteville”. It is the county seat of Fayette County. It has a historic central courthouse square surrounded by shops and restaurants in the old business district. It is in the southern automotive corridor and has several 2nd tier manufacturers of automotive products. Bevill State Community College is located here. Fayette was featured in “Today in America” with Terry Bradshaw as an excellent place to live and work in a small town. It is an Alabama “Community of Excellence” and one of the safest communities in Alabama. The Fayette Airport can support jets and has a medivac helicopter stationed there.
