Find Bed and Breakfast Lodging in Florence Alabama
Florence is the largest city in “The Shoals” metro area which includes Muscle Shoals, Sheffield and Tuscumbia and is also known as “The Quad-Cities”. The area is named for a shallow area of the Tennessee River where people gathered once plentiful mussels for food and used the shells for buttons. The Shoals has a rich musical history from the time when FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios produced the “magical” Shoals Sound. This was documented in the film “Muscle Shoals” released at the Sundance Film festival in 2013. It also hosts the W.C. Handy Music Festival annually. Heller Keller was born in Tuscumbia and her home, Ivy Green, is open to the public. The University of North Alabama has a lion habitat for its mascots, Leo III and UNA. The Shoals has another one of a kind attraction: The Coon Dog Graveyard. The founder, Key Underwood directed that only registered coon-hunting hounds could be buried there. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail begins at Florence.
